Credits & Data Sources

Pokémon species data, stats, types, egg groups, evolution chains, encounter tables, and all sprites (Pokémon, items, and Poké Balls) come from PokéAPI, a free and open Pokémon database. We cache responses to keep our load on them light.

PokéAPI has no ripped sprites for Pokémon above National Dex 650 in the Black and White style, because those Pokémon came after Black and White. The ones you see here were drawn by the Smogon Sprite Project, a community effort of dozens of named artists, and PokéAPI serves them with Smogon's permission. Roughly a third of the sprites on this site are their work rather than Nintendo's, including every shiny you see for a Gen 8 or Gen 9 Pokémon — those games are 3D and never rendered a 2D shiny for anyone to rip.

Region maps, item and hidden-item locations, and wild encounter tables are extracted directly from pret's decompilations of the original games. Reading the games' own data means these lists are exact rather than transcribed, and it lets us credit the people who did that painstaking work.

Map layouts are computed from each game's own connection data, which is factual geography. The drawing itself is ours; no game artwork is used or reproduced.

Where PokéAPI has no encounter data for a game (Sword/Shield, Scarlet/Violet), we fall back to Bulbapedia. That content is licensed CC BY-NC-SA 2.5, and pages sourced from it link back to the article they came from.

A lot of what this site gets right came from r/ShinyPokemon. The community has given us a steady stream of feedback and honest criticism: directly, from people who tried the site and said plainly what was wrong with it, and indirectly, by being the place where shiny hunting is documented and argued about carefully enough to learn from. Features here exist because someone there pointed out they were missing, and mistakes were fixed because someone there noticed. We are very grateful for it.

• We prefer raw game data from decompilation projects, which is factual game information rather than someone's writing.
• Where we use a wiki, we take only structured facts — an item, a place, a game — never the prose, notes, or formatting around them.
• Every dataset records where it came from, so we can credit and update it.
